My name is Doug Gilghrist. I graduated in May 2017 from Slippery Rock University (SRU) in Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. Ever since I was a young boy, I have always had a passion for sports. I would sit in the stands of a baseball game and broadcast the game in my head, as I tried to emulate the best broadcasters of the time. In my three years at Slippery Rock University, I gained a wealth of journalistic experience. I was the play-by-play announcer for SRU baseball, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and field hockey. I also did color commentary for all of the above sports plus lacrosse. I wrote for The Rocket, Slippery Rock University's school newspaper, for over one year. In the summer of 2016, I did my internship for the Butler BlueSox, a collegiate summer baseball team, in which I did color commentary for a half-dozen games and wrote 15 articles for the team's website. I was a sportswriter for the Butler Eagle, covering high school football, in 2016 and 2017. I also worked for SRU's television station, WSRU-TV, as a news and sports anchor. I am currently a sportswriter for the StatSalt.com website. I write preview articles for the site, covering college and professional sports, and make predictions about the games based on point spreads and the over/under line for the game. I have about a 60% success rate on my predictions.
